The Atomic Beau Project - ‘Cellar Door’ Film Clip / by Kylie Cobb

Late August 2020, somewhere in the Toolara Forest, in the stunning Gympie Region, the sun was setting fast as a team of creatives worked with the unique scenery and last light beaming through the pines off a blazing horizon. A film clip usually takes a solid day minimum, from sun rise to sun set to complete. Producer/Director Andy James had a clear and well planned shoot list and we had all coordinated like clockwork in the weeks leading up, which reduced this time to only a few hours before sunset. The team of creatives involved consisted of Max Van Heusden, one of Gympie’s young guns behind a lens, myself as Costume and Set Designer, and John Howie my trusty set building assistant …. and The Atomic Beau Project.

The Atomic Beau Project are being hailed as Brisbane’s newest prog/heavy powerhouses, and their lead singer is our very own home grown, super talented songstress and sweetheart Emma Beau! Originally a solo studio project created by its founding member Andy ( Emma’s Hubby) The Atomic Beau Project officially expanded in 2020 to a full band line up adding Jack Gardener on Guitar and Luke Woollett on Bass. The band’s sound has been compared to that of Devin Townsend, Poppy, and Skynd. Their first release of 2020 ‘TIME’, received airplay on Triple M Hard ‘N’ Heavy, The Faction and more. They were also featured in the world’s largest progressive rock/metal magazine, PROG and received 8.8/10 on Local Band Smokeout!

So when creative planning began around their latest single CELLAR DOOR, Emma and Andy had already conjured up a dark and ominous vision for the film clip and knew the Gympie region was brimming with ideal locations that are easily accessible, Gympie is basically a one stop shop for every possible backdrop, (especially in the film clip realm).

I answered a post on Facebook back in July as Emma was searching for unique clothing concepts, I definitely keep my radar up for those type of opportunities wherever possible. I worked closely with Emma and Andy, the Artistic Directors, during planning and lead up, it was exhilarating to work with a couple so in sync on a project. I even reached out to local legend Bentley O’Toole of 3D Creative for some tips on how best to approach Emma’s crown (pictured) as I wanted to push myself with new materials and I’ve long admired Bentley and his incredible skills.

I’m beyond proud to have been involved with The Atomic Beau Project’s CELLAR DOOR and think that the Halloween eve release was a perfect fit …… head to their Facebook, Instagram and You Tube right now to follow their journey and check out the film clip!

#creativesunite and go forth and COLLABORATE!
